My name is Barbara Shafer and I am the Chef and Owner of A Chef of Your Own LLC.
Food has always been my passion and I have been involved with it for the last 35 years in some shape or form. After graduating Penn State with a degree in Nutrition, I realized that my options were either working in a hospital or doing research. Neither one of those appealed to me so I went on to culinary school and graduated from The Walnut Hill School in Philadelphia, Pa. Through the years, I have worked for independent restaurateurs, large corporations, a private children’s school, a sorority at Colorado State University, private assisted living for the elderly and owned my own catering company.
Today, A Chef of Your Own continues to expand. Stephanie Javernick, Alicia Bagherian and Alex Sena are key to A Chef of Your Own in the kitchen and in weekly menu development. We pride ourselves in offering fresh, seasonal entrees and sides prepared in a variety of International flavor profiles. It’s our passion & mission to serve you with integrity & be a part of your dining experience.
I’m currently working as a contributing sous chef at A Chef Of Your Own. Originally from Colorado Springs, I ventured to Fort Collins in 1998 to attend CSU. Graduating with a Health and Exercise Science degree was great however, this was also the time when I discovered my passion for cooking. Although I haven’t received any formal culinary training, I’ve gained extensive knowledge in the various kitchens she has worked in over the last eight years. I currently live in Fort Collins with my two fur babies, Chicky and Lola.
I’m originally from Colorado and pretty much worked in the food industry most of my life. Growing up in a large family and with a single mom, I started cooking for my family at a young age. By 14, I was working with my mom in a pizza spot, bussing tables, waitressing and eventually into cooking. I have worked in Thai, Cajun, Pizza and American restaurants and several different cuisines in between! I’ve been working at A Chef of Your Own for 6 months and have become an integral part of daily operations. I have two young sons and my husband that have always been great taste testers!
I’ve known Barb for 25 years and started working at A Chef of Your Own in 2015 on a part-time basis. I’m originally from Colorado and have lived the last 30 years in Fort Collins. Graduating with a Technical Journalism and Marketing from CSU several years ago, I have my Real Estate license and work with C3 Realtors in downtown Fort Collins. I’ve been selling real estate along the front range for the last 25 years.
My passions are spending time with my husband, Chris, fly fishing, travel and my two dogs Auggie and Scout. And of course, cooking!
